Holiday Style

Forgot to take a photo of my outfit yesteday, so this is all I can give you...we baked cookies, made cider, and decorated our tree for the holiday!  So forgive my distractedness...
In my head, I called my ensemble "Haute Mama," as it consisted of a chunky, mom-like sweater paired with distressed denim.  :)  (Hahaha, I'm so witty.)

I found an old tie of my dad's that I stole ages ago.

I really enjoyed wearing this outfit.
And then I looked really terrible in all the photos my hubby took.

Nat'l Guard Christmas Dinner {ft. hubby}

My hubby's unit had their first "dine-in" Christmas party...the party itself was mostly underwhelming (I did enjoy the ceremonial stuff, but not the briefings or the venue), but I loved getting dressed in a gown and hanging with soldiers in Class A's and suits (and some lady soldiers wore gowns, of course) and their equally-well-dressed family members.  :)

My hubby looked super yummy...his jacket has some Western accents (it's difficult to see in this photo).

love my grandma...

I wasn't going to post anything today, but a.) I think I'm addicted, and b.) I realized I needed to SHARE THE LOVE I have for this green sweater-coat.
My grandma (still living, and still my style icon at 80 years old) knit it.  SHE KNIT THIS.  Do you see the perfect intricate cableing? the wide and strikingly striped collar? the standout cuffs? the smoothly fitted band? the glorious green colors????
And the best part is: she knit this for herself. And it fit her perfectly when she was younger.  One day a few years ago she looked at me and said, "Cates, you're the only one in my family that this might fit."  I tried it on, and I never wear green, but ohhhh this sweater-coat fits me so well!  It's got a lot of style and pinache, and yet is still elegant (just like grandma), even in that oh-so-'70s green.  What a treasure.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but I love my grandma, Merilyn!
