A very hairy Christmastime

Once upon a time, I found the most amazing "big-ass coat from the thrift shop down the road."  (*SHOUTOUT--Macklemore!!! That song is my liiiiiiiiiife!*)  It seems only fit to put on my mirrored shades, a coat of slick red lipstick, and mean-mug like a boss while wearing it.

Feel This Moment

I still don't know how much into this neon trend I'm buying...buuuuuuut if a sweater is $1.49 at Goodwill, I'm buying!

Lolz...bad pun.  Sorry.

One thing I'll say for neon, though: it's the perfect thing to brighten up a dreary day!  Especially a snowy day when you're hoping for spring...

PLEASE REMEMBER TO

...since they're taking GFC away from me soon
(and I want to keep you all around!
I love blogging for you guys!).

Anyway, this outfit is full of cool details.  Here's a couple detail shots:

Love my baaaaag of course.
The cable-knitting on the sweater is so gorgeous,
and my necklace never lets me down when it comes to adding punch to an outfit!

These shoes (and craaaaaazy pants) have already been featured,
but they're just so awesome that they deserve more time in the spotlight!

Kinda random, but I also wanted to share my animal in the Chinese zodiac.
I'm the dragon.  :)
I'm still pleased as punch about that, same as when I learned about it in gradeschool.  I also love hearing about how healthy I am when it's my second week battling the same cold...haha.  Ohhh the irony.  (But in general I will admit that I am pretty healthy.)

What is your Chinese Zodiac animal?
Do you like that animal?
Is the description pretty accurate?

I wanted to share a couple shots from my self-photoshoot in my car...'cuz I'm really cool like that.

Heh...I just wanted to share my awesome new magenta faux fur scarf!  Just a peek for now, but I'm sure you'll see more of it soon.

Annnnnd we'll end this post with an outtake: Mom caught me tugging my sweater down.  Really pretty.  :P
But, hey, at least I got her to take my photos outside in a location NOT against the blue wall in my bedroom.

Off-Orange makes for an On Day

Check out my new BAAAAAAG!!!  :)
I made such a haul thrifting last night...I found this and another Prada bag.  I hope they're real...  Regardless, they're absolutely lovely!  So even if they're not worth a mint, they're worth having!

I tweeted last night about how 15-degree weather really cramps my style...so when I woke up this morning, I refused to be beaten!  I brought out a skirt, regardless of the ice on the windows.  :)
I've also been missing all the more dated (vintage, retro, etc.) items in my closet.  I enjoy dressing like I live in the here-and-now sometimes, but I mostly identify with vintage fashion.  It's hard to wear my vintage pieces in winter...I'm still trying to find ways.

Anybody have any tips/hints/tricks on how to wear vintage outfits in frigid weather?

This skirt really does a good job of showing off a tiny waist...(thank goodness my waist survived the holidays! my thighs certainly didn't, but I think all the good home-cookin' was worth it).

Tell me about your holidays in the comments!
I have more photos of mine coming...hope y'all won't mind some Christmas in January...

What's black and white and plaid all over?

Sooo sometimes I wear two pairs of tights when it's cold haha...Hopefully this year I won't let Wisconsin winter pull down my style spirit!  Wrapping up in a little fur always makes a girl feel warmer, right?

And now, dear readers, I'm gonna throw out this plea again:

If you have a piece of art that you like, please tell me the name of it and its artist (you can email me or leave it in the comments below).

I want to do a series of outfits inspired by pieces of art (not where I try to look like whoever is in the painting, but where I wear an outfit in the same color pallette that attempts to evoke the same feeling).
If I choose your idea, you'll definitely get the credit for it and a link to your blog/site in my post.

There's no time constraint to this thing, either...in fact, I'll probably be re-posting this little spiel for the next few blogposts so I get as many ideas as possible, because I've always loved art, but I'm not very knowledgeable about it, so I'm looking forward to getting your input and getting exposed to new artists.

Welcoming Fall

This is the coziest outfit ever!!!  I prettymuch love everything about it, too:

1.) the hat: I love this hat, but I don't get much opportunity to wear it because of its unique style.  I know what you're thinking: 'Caitlin. It's just a tan hat; how much more basic can you get?'  But, dear readers, I implore you to take a closer look!  It's a little bit fedora, a little bit sunhat, a little bit hoity-toity, and a little bit cowboy all at the same time.  That's just exhausting.
2.) the scarf: This is my actual favorite (warm) scarf.  It's my favorite colors and pattern (floral!).  And it's super-cozy wool that somehow manages to not be itchy (a minor miracle).
3.) the sweater: I finally get to wear green!!!  I know, this may sound silly, but wearing green turns my eyes green (I have what I call "changeling" eyes: they change color with my clothes or mood), which is my favorite color for them to be.  Unfortunately, I have--not brown, not yellow, not pink, not any NORMAL undertone to my skin--but a green undertone.  This makes wearing green challenging, but the tone of this sweater is a-OK.
4.) the boots: I adore my combat boots.  That is all.

Makin' a funny face, but I wanted to debut my new [thrifted] fur coat in all its glorious luxury!
My mommy was nice enough to snap these photos with my phone outside of a Restaurant which Shall Not be Named.  *coughcough shiftyeyes*

Is everybody else excited for Fall?
The colors are changing around here already, and I keep catching myself driving like a grandma on country roads just so I can gape.

THANKS, as always, for reading!

Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood,
a beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Went to lunch with mommy again today and was luckier still to get my photo taken on a gorgeous afternoon in my beloved hometown...
We went to the Chocolate Factory, and--after enjoying a scoop of decadent Chocolate Factory Special ice cream--mom snapped a photo of me out front. (I'm sure we got lots of funny looks from tourists and locals alike, but who cares?)

Fun Fact: In the background to the right (behind the garbage can) you can see what's left of an ice sculpture from the annual downtown contest during Winterfest.

My hometown is so...quaint.  I miss it.

cyanide sweet tooth suicide

Thought of that title because I'm rocking candy colors today.  and because my outerwear look is so different from the feel of what I'm wearing under it...you'll see what I mean.

Here are swatches of the colors I'm wearing:

Smooshed all together like that, they remind me of the patchwork elephant book.

Anyway: ON TO THE CLOTHING!

I was trying for a soft '50s look.
Makes me want to crank some Frank Sinatra tunes...I love Old Blue Eyes.

YELLOW MANICURE
Just for fun.  I can't wear yellow clothes because of my skin tone, so I wear it on my nails when I need some sunshine.  I really need some right now: we're starting to hit the doldrums of winter. As a bonus: you get a bit better view than usual of my wedding ring.  :)
Both my hubby and I thought I was gonna be a solitaire-in-a-plain-band kind of girl...boy were we wong.  Buying this ring together was really when my love for bling began...the ring poisoned me lol

PS--Whenever I say "manicure," I don't mean professionally done.  I may wear a fur coat, but it was thrifted.  I'm not that uppity lol

Anyway, now we transition (not very smoothly) from a sweet, soft, pastel palette to THIS:

This is kinda like: rarr I punch you in the face with elegance!
A more educated way of saying that is: instead of soft elegance, it's stark elegance.  lol  I like them both.

Love these earrings...they remind me of the pair pictured below
that Audrey Hepburn (my forever idol) wore in Sabrina.
