Newcomers to the (Ef)Face: Check These Out!

Outfit, take me to work and beyond!

So.  Mama always told me that it was a sartorial sin to wear black and brown together.  I love my mama, but to that, I have learned to say "HA."

My grandma always told me it was an unforgivable fashion faux-pas to not match my bag and my shoes.  That rule I still kinda dig, actually, as I like to nod to vintage and retro feels...so I guess it's safe to say that I follow the rules when it suits me.  ;)
        ...jussayin.

ANYWAY.  <--clever segue

This outfit had to be comfortable, cute, and slightly sexy but still work appropriate (I had an event to go to straight from this workday). So I tried to channel my inner Samantha Jones while looking only at my most soft and stretchable pieces (and practical footwear...sigh, the struggle is real).

Overall, I felt that I succeeded in my mission.

That little peep of black poking out from under my button-down?  Well, people, this is Wisconsin, and it's winter, and it's COLD.
I am so guilty of hiding secret layers, it's not even funny.  Well, in this case maybe the layer wasn't so secret since it's, like, hanging out there, but hey--I tried.  I still get points for trying, right?

In case you were wondering, most of my look is secondhand, as per always (top from Express, skirt from Anne Klein via Goodwill, belt from God-knows-where via Goodwill). The boots, however, where a fabulous find on major sale at Kohl's (JLo's brand). The bag is Etienne Aigner via Marshall's.

Thanks for reading, folks!  I'll be back soon with another post.

  2. Meeehh-hawwww! :D I love the fashion dog image. So true, so true! I really needed a good chuckle today (soooo "one of those weeks") and that delivered it. Thank you dear gal!

Really chic, fun outfit. Your boots are sensational! That warm, rich shade of brown is so lux and beautiful - plus it goes with nearly everything that black does. You're really put me in the mood for warmer days and coat-free outfits again with the lovely look!

  8. Man, do I wish I had a skirt like yours, I just love how the black and white stripes look with the brown accents! And I much agree on the fashion rules; yes to brown and black and together and yes to matching shoes and bags.
