Newcomers to the (Ef)Face: Check These Out!

Tomboyish

Mmmmm lookit those pasty white ankles poking out.  ;)

Actually, while I'm on the subject, I'd like to make AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am going to try to fight peer pressure
and stay pale this summer.

There: now it's out there, and I can't take it back.

I mean, honestly, I'll probably end up with a slight glow: I love laying under the warm sun.  But there are so many reasons for me to really try to avoid sun exposure:

1.) It's healthier for my skin.  Hopefully I'll age better.  And skin cancer-y stuff kinda runs in the family, so I'd like to avoid that, too, if possible.

2.) I wear more of my vintage wardrobe in summer, and it looks sooo wrong with tanned skin.

3.) It'll be cheaper/less stressful.  I won't have to worry about having ugly tanlines, I won't have to pay to go tanning, I won't have to buy tanning oil and lotion (and sunburn ointment...heh heh).  All I'll have to do is work a sunscreen application step into my morning ritual.

4.) I will never look like a beach bunny or Cali girl or surfer girl or whatever other sterotypes you can think of for tan females.  My body and face just aren't set up that way, and whenever a person tries to be something they're not, it just looks sad.

Anyway, the whole "pale is pretty" thing really seems to be making a comeback right now.  "Safe sun" is HUGE.  And the pin-up look is always "in."

Anybody else gonna join me in the
fight to stay fair-skinned this summer?
I know it'll be hard when my pasty thighs start hanging out of shorts, so I could use some back-up and support!
Let me know in the comments!

Before I go, I'd like to point out that by shopping secondhand, this whole outfit cost me less that $40.00 (accessories included).  I love secondhand shopping!

Sorry so blurry: wanted to show off my shoes, but it only kind of worked.

Saturday Evening in Sunday Finest

The shadows on my legs are from a cast iron fence out of the photos...
Lacey powder pink top, peplum skirt, vintage hat, cameo necklace...these are a few of my favorite things!

My nails have lil shamrocks on them.  :)
I wore this little ensemble to church this past Saturday to celebrate coming back to choir after a bad cold kept me away for two weeks.

My husband took these photos of me.

However--not to sound overdramatic--these photos of me smiling in this sophisticated outfit are only tearing my heart apart, now.  I didn't know when these were taken what would happen a few hours later.
I don't need to burden you with my personal problems; suffice to say that, because of a very traumatic event, I have been in the process of divorcing my husband.  This particular event is not the only reason for the divorce, merely the tipping point.  (Trust me, any fellow Christians reading my blog, that my reasoning for divorce is biblically acceptable.)

To throw a little dark humor out there: it's really too bad I'll never be able to re-wear this pretty outfit because of the bad memories associated with it.  :)
Or maybe some day I will be able to.  We'll see.

I've really never given you guys quality photos of this phenomenal coat! such a travesty!
Isn't it glorious?

Everything is thrifted except the Shoes (Payless) and necklace (gift), and even those things are from high school.

Anyway, I want to apologize; after this post, my blogging is probably going to be quite sporadic for a few months.

+sigh+ I've never had a good St. Patty's Day...Oh, well...There's always next year, right?

Feel This Moment

I still don't know how much into this neon trend I'm buying...buuuuuuut if a sweater is $1.49 at Goodwill, I'm buying!

Lolz...bad pun.  Sorry.

One thing I'll say for neon, though: it's the perfect thing to brighten up a dreary day!  Especially a snowy day when you're hoping for spring...

PLEASE REMEMBER TO

...since they're taking GFC away from me soon
(and I want to keep you all around!
I love blogging for you guys!).

Anyway, this outfit is full of cool details.  Here's a couple detail shots:

Love my baaaaag of course.
The cable-knitting on the sweater is so gorgeous,
and my necklace never lets me down when it comes to adding punch to an outfit!

These shoes (and craaaaaazy pants) have already been featured,
but they're just so awesome that they deserve more time in the spotlight!

Kinda random, but I also wanted to share my animal in the Chinese zodiac.
I'm the dragon.  :)
I'm still pleased as punch about that, same as when I learned about it in gradeschool.  I also love hearing about how healthy I am when it's my second week battling the same cold...haha.  Ohhh the irony.  (But in general I will admit that I am pretty healthy.)

What is your Chinese Zodiac animal?
Do you like that animal?
Is the description pretty accurate?

I wanted to share a couple shots from my self-photoshoot in my car...'cuz I'm really cool like that.

Heh...I just wanted to share my awesome new magenta faux fur scarf!  Just a peek for now, but I'm sure you'll see more of it soon.

Annnnnd we'll end this post with an outtake: Mom caught me tugging my sweater down.  Really pretty.  :P
But, hey, at least I got her to take my photos outside in a location NOT against the blue wall in my bedroom.

need a Little Leopard in my Life

Sooooo these past few days, I've been doing some serious lovin' on the bag I bought Monday!  :)  Basically, I've been making outfits around this bag.

Anybody else do that?  Style themselves "backwards" by picking an accessory first?

I wanted to ask y'all another question:

Does it bother you that most of my photos are now taken in the same exact corner of my bedroom?

I try to keep things interesting enough by posing all quirky and editing the photos a bit differently...but I can only do so much.

Also: I'm sure that, by now, most of you are aware of the conundrum facing those of us bloggers who operate chiefly on Google...Google reader (GFC) will be ripped out from under us starting July 1st.  :(  It'll be a bloggernational day of mourning, especially for yours truly, but everyone else is doing a lot of complaining, so I won't burden you with any more of that.
I figure, if my blog is meant to grow, it'll happen (whether it's via GFC or Bloglovin' or whatever), so I'm just gonna keep posting a button like this in all my posts, so you can keep on being my blogfriend by following with Bloglovin' instead of GFC!  :)

The Right to Bare Legs

I'm soooo sick of winter, I've stopped dressing even borderline appropriately for the weather.  It snowed and was grey yesterday, but I wore this out and about anyway!  Despite the weather and despite my cold...HA.
And I had a fantastic day!  I made a haul at Goodwill and found the bag I have been searching for at Target!

I saw it when they first put it on the shelves, and didn't have enough in my weekly spending allotment left to buy it.  When the next week rolled around, I moseyed over to Target to purchase it, and of course it was gone.  :(
So I looked at other Target stores, came up empty; checked online, it was unavailable; looked at lookalikes (even designer ones just for shiggles), nothing seemed quite as right for my style (which was amusing to me)...and then--wonder of wonders--while running around half-naked like a crazy person in the freezing cold, I drove past a Target and thought, well what the heck, I'll just run in and check real quick
And there it was, in all its black and white glory, sitting on the clearance shelf.  :)
How do I get so lucky?  (I'm totally staring at it right now as I type...)

Anyway, speaking of half-naked crazy-person moi, here I am:

There's nothing extremely fashion-forward about this ensemble; I'm just sharing it, because I think it's pretty doggone cute.  :)
Hope you agree!

Also, just so you know: there are pictures coming of my vintage runway modeling experience coming soon!!!
The dress photographs very well: I'm very excited to show it to you!!!

THANKS FOR VISITING!

Happy International Women's Day!

Athena is the mythological Greek goddess
of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice,
just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.

Many-faceted, just like most of the women I know.

Escapism

Soooo before I start the actual post, I'm aware that few [...or none?] of my readers live in my area, buuuuut I thought I'd throw this out just in case:
I'll be walking in this fashion show for a local secondhand shop I recently discovered.

Yep, I'm gonna be in a little fashion show.  :)  It's not like a big deal or anything--I'm not suddenly thinking I'm the next Karlie Kloss--but I'm still super-excited, because:

a.)Um, it's a fashion show and Imma be in it.
b.) It's for a great cause (the business was started to make sure all girls could attend prom/special events regardless of budget [they rent prom dresses/tuxes as well as sell them and other vintage/gently-used clothing]).
c.) I get to wear a fabulous dress from the 40s (a black, ruffle-y, one-shoulder number, WOO!).

So.  On the off-chance that anyone lives near Grafton, WI (not my hometown, but close),
COME AND SUPPORT Stephanie's Prom Closet
and see me strut my stuff!
And I'll be attempting to white-girl shake my groove thang at the dance after the runway show (which--thrust me--will be enough entertainment to make the cover charge worth it).
If you can't come, then just do me a favor and pray that I don't fall flat on my face.

Anyway, on to the OOTD:
